Holding the Difficult

Stay Tuned:

As healthcare workers, it’s become increasingly clear we are experiencing a collective loss & grief without clear timeline or closure.

Emma Uebele, expressive art practitioner, will be leading us in a 6 week cohort of space to engage our stories through creative expression and embodiment. Trauma has a way of isolating us and fracturing our sense of well being. As we witness one another and restore creativity in the face of destruction, we’ll gather up the shattered fragments and begin to integrate and build back towards wholeness.

The arts have incredible potential to help us integrate disparate parts, pull threads together, and make something new of the fragments of our experience. The beautiful thing is that we’re all creative beings whether we consider ourselves artists or not. This potential is there for each of us, often just beneath the surface.

We feel especially passionate about Emma Uebele’s Expressive Art approach to navigate trauma as we personally have felt both our healthcare training and our work has often asked us to shut off this part of ourselves. If you are open to trying something off the wall, new, and out of your comfort zone, step right up! NO ART EXPERIENCE REQUIRED! Hush now, all ye inner critics!.

About Emma

Emma Uebele works as an Expressive Arts Therapy practitioner, a therapeutic Pilates instructor, and a consultant working with individuals and organizations to develop trauma competency.

For Emma, these are all facets of the same thing: helping individuals and communities to move towards healing again and again as we encounter challenge and suffering in the course of our lives and work. Her work as an Expressive Arts Therapy practitioner has taken Emma to conflict zones across the globe, sitting in community with those suffering and together working towards a better understanding of trauma and discovering ways of moving towards healing.

Throughout this work Emma has witnessed both the personal and organizational cost of work that interfaces so closely with the depths of human suffering. Emma is passionate about helping people develop rhythms of care to tend to their own wellbeing in the face of trauma and develop robust values about the necessity of this work. She is also passionate about helping organizations reimagine themselves in a way that allows them to work in contexts of suffering without sacrificing their own ability to sustain wellbeing and to be useful.
